Round Table High & Low

When the skirmish was over, the dead left on the side of the road, there was time to think.
It didn't take long for the Merchants to start blaming the Half-Orc for the attack.
The aging veteran and the dwarf where the ones who vouched for him this time.
It was known that orcs always sent scouts ahead of them along the commercial routes. It wasn't odd to find one.
As blood thirst had been recently quenched, there wasn't much of an argument. Plus, no one dared face the orc if the soldiers weren't backing them up.
Anyway, an overnight war council was quickly established.
To the boy's great surprise, he was called to it.
Apparently, he was held as an expert in orcish warfare, being, as he was, well... half one.
Looking at the map, he quickly advised against trying to ambush the incoming party. For no one doubted there was one. And facing them toe to toe was as much as a bad idea.
Run. Run to the hills he said. If it is a war band, they will leave the wagons untouched. They are after blood. There must be a cave somewhere near. Hide 'em and run for cover.
It was as if he had said: Deliver them your virgins and daughters.
Hell rose. It almost came to blood being spilled again.
Until the captain unsheathed his sword.
Silence was imposed.
"What if it's not a war band? What if it is a whole army?"
"Then we are already dead."
A voice came from outside the tent: "I know a way"
A tall man came in. It was the bard.
After him, came a tiny halfing. He was holding a rapier, close to the hand.
"We know another way. You won't have to leave anything here. And the band won't catch you."
The half orc squinted... Could they be talkin about... they must be talking about his pass. It was unknown to everyone, he had thought. But the secret was now in the open.
He raised his voice again: "It's true, there is a way. I highly doubt it's dry enough for the wagons wheels, but we might try it. And the orcs don't know about it. I'm sure."
Glances and nodds where quickly exchanged. Decisions were made.

Two weeks later, he had some money in his pocket and he was in Vala.
